TYRONE -- Defending District 6 Class 3A boys golf champion Luke McGraw of State College took the next step toward repeating as champion by carding a 6-under par 66 to win District 6 3A sectionals at Sinking Valley Country Club on Tuesday.
McGraw led an incredible effort by the State College golfers, who took the top six places and advanced seven individual golfers to districts along with their team.
The Little Lions won the sectional title with a score of 289, just 1-over par, by 40 strokes over runner-up Hollidaysburg, which shot a 329 and also advanced as a team to next Tuesday's District 6 championship.
The Golden Tigers advanced two individuals -- Tyler Steiner and Sam McLanahan, who both shot 79 -- to next week's championship where the top two 3A golfers will advance to the PIAA championships in State College.
Altoona, which finished third as a team and did not advance, advanced one individual golfer -- Adam Kanouff, who carded an 80 and tied for the 10th and final qualifying spots.
Hollidaysburg golfers Mason Bender and Landen Petrunak and Altoona's Mason Lynn all shot 81 to finish tied for 12th and missed qualifying for districts by one stroke.
