Marauders sending their golf team to finals

EBENSBURG -- Bishop Guilfoyle Academy finished third, two strokes behind co-winners Richland and Westmont Hilltop, and advanced as a team to the District 6 Class 2A boys golf championships at Sinking Valley Country Club on Tuesday by finishing in the top four at sectionals Wednesday at Ebensburg Country Club.

Alex Talmadge of West Shamokin, the two-time defending District 6 champion, won individual play with an even-par 71.

The top 30 individuals and ties advanced to the championships.

Central Cambria's Jake Kirsch finished tied for third with a 75, and teammate Andrew Kasecky finished sixth with a 77. The Red Devils also got Logan Black into districts after he shot an 80 and tied for 11th.

BG advanced four individual golfers. Grant Okonak shot a 78 and tied for seventh, Troy Nachtman carded an 80 and tied for 11th, Carter Boland shot 81 and tied for 14th, and Aidan Sheehan shot 83 and tied for 22nd.

Central, Penn Cambria and Tyrone each advanced two golfers.

The Scarlet Dragons had Cody Clapper shoot 79 and tie for ninth, and Tristan Ritchey shot 84 and tied for 30th. For the Panthers, Colten Karlheim and Kingston Durbin each shot 82 and tied for 19th. Tyrone's Blake Sweitzer finished tied for 14th after shooting 81, and Kaleb Sweitzer shot 83 to finish tied for 22nd.

Bishop Carroll's Jace Casses also moved on by shooting an 81 and tying for 14th. BG's Brody Gartmann shot an 86 and missed the cut by a single stroke, finishing 32nd.
