CRESSON — Don Dimoff and Andrew Forjan are a generation apart in age, but they have been playing golf together for several years.

Dimoff, 61, and Forjan, 27, who reside in different towns in York County, parlayed their familiarity with one another’s games into a very consistent second round Sunday to win the championship of the 32nd Summit Country Club Invitational.

After trailing the outstanding team of Hollidaysburg Area High School graduates Mike Macionsky and Sean Brannan by two strokes after Saturday’s first round, Dimoff and Forjan pulled out the tournament title with a birdie fest on Sunday.

The winning duo scored a two-day total of 131 by carding a 66 on Sunday following their 65 on Saturday. Last year’s Summit champions Landon Hollenshead and Calvin Mentzer finished second this year with a two-day score of 132 (68-64), while Wally Clapper and Spencer Hinish placed third with a 133 (69-64).

Macionsky and Brannan, who shot a scorching 63 in the first round on Saturday, carded a 71 Sunday to finish fourth with a score of 134.

Consistency was the key for the winning Dimoff-Forjan team on Sunday.

“I’m from Mount Union originally and I’m familiar with a lot of the courses in central Pennsylvania like this one,” said Dimoff, who is the head varsity girls basketball coach at Red Lion High School. “I like this course a lot and I’ve played here a couple of times, but this is the first time that Andrew and I partnered up here and played this course as a team.

“”It’s great playing with Andrew,” Dimoff added. “We’ve played a bunch of golf together, we think the same way on the golf course, and we work well together. We didn’t have a single bogey the entire weekend.”

The Dimoff-Forjan championship team rode several key birdies in the second round to take the championship.

Birdies on the second and third holes pulled them into a tie, and the battle for first place continued tied entering the final nine holes.

Dimoff and Forjan took the lead with another birdie on the par five 13th hole in which they had reached the green in two shots.

Both Dimoff and Forjan had effusive praise for the way this weekend’s Summit event was run.

“This was a top-notch event in all aspects,” Dimoff said.

After making his course debut at the Summit on Sunday, Forjan fully expects to return.

“This was my first time here, and I’ll be excited to come back,” Forjan said. “We’ll be back here for sure.”
