Offense propels Altoona to easy win over Canada in Babe Ruth World Series

OCALA, Fla. -- Altoona improved to 2-1 in the Babe Ruth Baseball 16-18 World Series and also clinched a spot in Thursday's bracket play with a 13-3, five-inning win over Alberta, Canada, on Tuesday.
Altoona took a 1-0 lead on EJ Ulery's groundout that scored Dante LaRocco in the first. Nick Kraft belted a two-run single in the bottom of the second to put Altoona up 3-0.
But Canada received a two-run homer from Brayer Siemens and a bases-loaded walk to tie the game in the third.
Ulery then put Altoona ahead to stay with a two-run homer in the bottom of the third, and Caden Gibbons followed with an RBI double. Altoona added two more runs in the fourth when Leland Baer stole home and LaRocco hit a sacrifice fly to score Braxton Zitsch.
Cayden Gibbons and Caden Gibbons each smacked a two-run homer in the fifth to give Altona a 12-3 lead. Connor Waite, who came in relief and threw 2• scoreless innings to earn the win, then ended the game via the 10-run mercy rule with a sacrifice fly that scored Gavin Bell.
Altoona and Chinese Taipei are both 2-1 and tied for second place behind 4-0 Hanford, Calif., in Pool D. Altoona and Chinese Taipei meet today at 7 p.m. with the winner advancing as Pool D No. 2 and the loser advancing as Pool D No. 3.
