LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Sideline Cancer basketball team, made up of professional basketball players, will participate in "The Basketball Tournament" this weekend -- for the 12th year -- in the Louisville regional.
The team, which plays in honor of The Greg and Cathy Griffith Family Foundation from Hollidaysburg, will look to claim the $1,000,000 prize. Sideline Cancer will enter regional play as the fourth seed in the regional and square off vs. fifth seed Madd Katts, a team of players from different colleges in Florida, at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
The game will be telecast on YouTube.
The team offers local fans some ties to the area as former Saint Francis University standouts Keith Braxton and Josh Cohen will play for the team. Braxton, the Northeast Conference player of the year in 2019, enters his third year playing for the team. Cohen earned NEC player of the year in 2023 and is in his first year with the team.
"(Cohen) is one of the hungriest players we have had in recent years with his desire to play for this team," assistant coach Jordan Griffith said.
A win on Saturday will advance Sideline Cancer to the second round on Sunday and a match up against the winner of The Ville, a team of Louisville Alumni players, or Boston vs. Cancer.
That game time will be at 7 p.m. and broadcast on Fox Sports 1.
