BERLIN, Germany -- Former Blair Regional YMCA and Bedford High School Swimmer Leah Shackley recently led Team USA to a strong showing at the World University games in Berlin, Germany.

She wound up earning five gold medals and one silver medal. The sophomore at North Carolina State University also broke three WUGs records at the event.

"I was a little concerned about my endurance coming into this meet because I have been competing non stop since last August in Australia, so the outcomes here in Berlin were so exciting," Shackley said.

She won the 200 backstroke with a record time of 2:05.99, swimming the fourth fastest time in the world this year. In the 100 backstroke, while heading into the finals as the first seed, she finished second in the finals to college teammate Kennedy Noble with a time of 59.13.

Shackley then earned another gold as a part of the mixed 400 medley relay swimming butterfly, with team time of 3:44.40. Shackley's second individual gold was earned in the 100 butterfly with a winning time of 58.16.

Shackley then broke another meet record in the 50 backstroke with a winning time of 27.31. Shackley's sixth gold medal was part of the women's 400 medley relay swum in 3:59.68.
