AAHS gymnasts perfect again

DuBOIS -- Altoona maintained its dominance in area high school gymnastics by sweeping the first, second and third places in the Gold Division to capture the team title at the Central PA Gymnastics League Championships on Thursday.

Senior Emma Bettwy won the vault (9.125), bars (9.125) and beam (9.1) on her way to capturing the all-around crown with a total of 36.1.

The Lady Lions (10-0) as a team scored 141.825 points -- significantly ahead of runner-up DuBois at 126.825 and third-place finisher Saint Marys, which had 117.625.

Katie Bettwy, who ended up finishing second in the all-around with a score of 35.6, won the floor event with a score of 9.075.

Maddy Pastore was third in the all-around with a score of 35.1 after finishing as the runner-up in the vault and floor and third in the beam.

The Lady Lions are off until Friday, Feb. 21, whenthey will compete in the Pa.Classic Team Championships in Huntingdon.

Tigers prevail

JOHNSTOWN -- The Hollidaysburg High School varsity ice hockey team received two third-period goals from Cole Hartman in edging Westmont Hilltop, 8-7, on Thursday night at 1st Summit Arena at War Memorial.

Hartman finished with three goals.

Ty Fitzgerald delivered three goals and an assist for Hollidaysburg, now 9-7, and Isaac Miller had two goals and two assists.

The Tigers next play on March 4, at Conemaugh Valley.

Portage girls win

PORTAGE -- The Portage Area High School girls basketball team moved to 13-10 with a 45-37 victory over Windber on Thursday night.

Kendall Bednarski led the Lady Mustangs with 11 points, and Britton Myher scored 10.

With the victory, Portage ensured itself a 15th straight winning season.
