Name: Savannah Hoover
High school: Cambria Heights
Hometown: Patton
Sport: Cross country/track and field
Position: Mid-distance runner
College choice: Saint Francis
Other colleges considered: Mount Aloysius, Saint Vincent and Penn Highlands
Why I picked Saint Francis: "I chose Saint Francis as my future college because they have my intended major as well as cross country/track teams. The campus is beautiful and the students/staff I have met are very kind and welcoming. Saint Francis is also close to home so I would be able to still see my family."
Greatest high school achievement: 18th place at the PIAA State meet for cross country.
Cross country coach John Kuskoski's quote: "Coach Doug Hoover has acquired a no risk recruit to add to the SFU roster. Savannah will take it to the next level with the same attributes that alumni Janel Strittmatter, Amy Shoemaker, and Quinn McElhenny had when they ran for Cambria Heights and SFU. There's that willingness to accept and adapt to new, more demanding training tactics. There's a strong, deep down self-discipline that is needed to tackle the challenges of the cross country course and the collegiate classroom. Lastly, like her predecessors, Savannah has the heart of a champion and the "inside roar" of a lioness..''
Track and field coach Tammy Nagel's quote: "Savannah is a born leader, and I am excited to see her continue to grow into that role at Saint Francis. She brings unparalleled passion, focus, and energy to every practice and competition. Savannah thrives under pressure, consistently rising to the occasion when it matters most, demonstrating not only her athletic talent but also her mental resilience. Her unique blend of humility and confidence makes her a role model on and off the track."
How I got my start running: "I joined cross country to stay in shape for track and gymnastics. I soon found my love for running and started training independently outside of practice. Not long after, I made the decision to focus solely on running and transitioned away from gymnastics so I could fully pursue my interest in my running sports."
Favorite college growing up: Saint Francis
Other interests: Concert band, chorus and vocal extension
What getting to play in college means to me: "Getting to run on the collegiate level is incredibly meaningful to me. Running is a passion of mine, and I aspire to continue pursuing it even after I graduate college. I can't wait to meet my new teammates and compete alongside them."
Probable college major: Exercise Physiology
Parents: Kelly and Brad Hoover
