HERSHEY -- One singles player and two doubles teams from Blair County will compete in the PIAA Girls Tennis Championships beginning today at the Hershey Racquet Club.
District 6 Class 2A singles champ Julia Ritchey of Central will begin play against District 12 champ Emerson Selgrath of Lansdale Catholic at 8 a.m. with a spot in the 4 p.m. quarterfinals on the line.
Hollidaysburg's Crosby Denis and Grace Muriceak, the District 6 Class 3A doubles champions, play at 2 p.m. against District 3 runners-up Elizabeth Tony and Brooke Schiavone of Dallastown. The quarterfinals are set for 6:30 p.m.
Zoe Grill and Kate Dunn of Central, the District 6 2A doubles champions, meet District 12 champs Rena Liu and Sophia Plastaras of Masterman at 10 a.m. with the quarterfinals set for 4 p.m.
Other first-round matchups of note include:
n Chestnut Ridge's Haley Hundley meets Hughesville's Sarah Buck in 2A singles.
n Central Mountain's Addison Lindsay plays Mechanicsburg's Taryn Zerby in 3A singles.
n Bedford's Kasey Shuke and Sadie Livengood face Hughesville's Annaka Bruder and Georgia Randall in 2A doubles.
ICE HOCKEY
Tigers edged
The Hollidaysburg varsity ice hockey team lost in overtime to Somerset, 6-5, after giving up five unanswered goals on Thursday at Galactic Ice.
Cole Lucas scored the game-winner for Somerset.
Cole Hartman had a goal and three assists for Hollidaysburg, and Ty Fitzgerald and Landen Petrunak each scored two goals.
