HERSHEY -- Juniata Valley's Ella McCrum, Cambria Heights' Savannah Hoover and Williamsburg's Ava Dixon each ran to all-state performances and earned top-25 medals in the PIAA Class 1A girls cross country race in Hershey on Saturday.
Central's Lanee Berkhimer was a medalist in 2A after previously medaling in 1A, and Altoona's Ashlyn Noce and Central Cambria's Paige Alexander narrowly missed out on medals in their classifications.
McCrum was the highest area finisher with a seventh-place medal in 20:11. Hoover was 18th in 20:29, and Dixon was right behind her in 20th at 20:32.
Berkhimer ended up 17th in 19:44 in 2A, and Bedford's Chloe May also medaled with a 21st-place finish in 19:51. Alexander was 28th and helped Central Cambria finish ninth as a team.
Noce missed a medal by just two places in 3A with a 27th-place finish in 19:27. She improved on her finish as a freshman, which was 63rd in 20:14.
"Ash's training and patience are paying their dues for her," Altoona coach Tabitha Quinn said. "We are incredibly proud of her."
The Class 3A boys field was dominated by District 6. Mifflin County's Carter Smith won the individual state championship with a time of 15:41, and State College captured the team title, 53-117, over LaSalle College.
Other area strong finishers included Forest Hills' Bella Ascheri, who was second in Class 1A, and Somerset's Emily Fisher, who was second in Class 2A.
In Class 3A, other Mirror core coverage area finishers included Altoona's Dean Sunderland (170th, 17:51) and Hollidaysburg's Rylan Carney on the girls side (173rd, 21:38).
Class 2A finishers included on the boys side Central Cambria's Dom Kuntz (49th, 17:27) and Ethan Haycisak (93rd, 17:52) and on the girls side Alaina Sheehan (88th, 21:25), Keira Link (89th, 21:25), Ruth Remillard (117, 21:46), Alaina Long (128th, 21:55), Morgan Brandis (160th, 22:27) and Abigail Sheehan (180th, 22:56) all of Central Cambria.
In the Class 1A boys race, Portage's Logan Gentile finished 105th in 18:45, Bellwood-Antis' Cameron Gallagher was 132nd in 19:10, and Bishop Carroll's Brody Pablic was 193rd in 20:18.
On the girls side, finishers included Josephine White of Portage (39th, 21:29), Ava Pablic of Bishop Carroll (44th, 21:34), Northern Bedford's Savanna Hershberger (46th, 21:38), Blake Pennington (61st, 21:56) and Julie Kraft (112th, 22:50) of Bellwood-Antis and Avery Myers (144th, 23:26) of Bishop Carroll.

Lindsay wins title
HERSHEY -- Central Mountain High School sophomore Addison Lindsay won the PIAA Class 3A singles tennis championship on Saturday at the Hershey Racquet Club.
Lindsay, the two-time District 6 champ, earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Anya Rosenbach of New Oxford in the final after finishing as the runner-up as a freshman.
Lindsay had defeated Parkland's Alexandria Warsing in the semifinals, 6-3, 6-1.
