College signing
Leigha Clapper:
Waynesburg basketball & golf
Name: Leigha Clapper
High school: Bellwood-Antis
Hometown: Bellwood
Sport: Basketball and Golf
Position: Guard
College choice: Waynesburg University
Other colleges considered: Juniata
Why I picked Waynesburg: “Because it felt like home. I enjoyed meeting both of my future coaches and teammates. I am excited to see where this journey takes me and how it will help me grow in my faith”
Greatest high school achievement: “Making it to the final four my freshman year as well as being apart of Mini-Thon and raising $24,239.60 for our first year”
Coach Kylie Longo’s quote: “Leigha has worked hard for this. I have known Leigha since I taught her in first grade. She’s dedicated and gives 100% to anything she decides to be a part of. She isn’t afraid to go after what she wants. She adds value to anything she is a part of. As a Waynesburg Alumni myself, I am very happy for Leigha because I know besides getting to play collegiate sports she’s going to get a great education at a university that is going to pour into her as a person not as a number and beyond that it’s a university that is going to help her grow in her faith and challenge her. She’s going to get to take on leadership opportunities and make a difference on campus. I couldn’t be happier for her.”
How I got my start playing basketball and golf: “I started playing basketball in kindergarten when coach Longo had clinics every week. I started golfing two years ago when coach Longo took me and some of my teammates to the driving range and sent a video to former head coach Jim Swaney, and he told me I had a good swing.”
Favorite college growing up: Penn State
Other interests: Playing golf with my dad, going to youth group, hanging out with my friends and family, and working at Surplus City
What getting to play in college means to me: “Playing in college means a lot to me. I’ve spent every summer since fifth grade playing AAU. Finally seeing the hard work and dedication pay off is rewarding. It is a chance to take my athletic and academic career to the next level. Being a part of a team is about the memories made along the way and I’m excited to create new memories with new teammates.”
