TENNIS
Lady Tigers fall
The Hollidaysburg Area High School girls tennis team suffered its first loss of the season in the first round of the PIAA Class 3A team tournament, falling to Shady Side Academy, 4-1, Tuesday at Summit Athletic Club.
"I could not be any more proud of our girls than I am today,'' Hollidaysburg coach Brian Denis said. "We gave Shady Side all they could handle and then some. They are a tremendous team with the WPIAL singles champion playing at No. 1 and great depth behind her. At one point, we were leading all three matches that were being played.''
Katie Klingner and Sarah Urban won at No. 2 doubles for the Lady Tigers, who finished at 17-1.
"This may have been one of our greatest seasons ever, taking a match in the state playoffs against a WPIAL team for the first time ever, and almost getting a few more,'' Denis said. "Our seniors (Sarah Neatrour, Urban and Klingner) have been unbelievable all season, and we will certainly miss them tremendously. What a great way to end their tennis careers. We have a tremendous amount of talent coming back next year, and hopefully this lights a fire under them to have an even better season next year.''
