Ritchey helps NBC girls soccer triumph

3 min read

EVERETT -- Mayleigh Ritchey booted in the winning goal during penalty kicks as Northern Bedford edged Everett, 3-2, in the District 5 Class 1A girls soccer quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Keeper Blaire Gable made two saves for the Lady Panthers during the penalty kicks. Hannah Yeatts and Ava Helsel had scored during regulation for Northern, while Sara Shaffer and Jocelyn Schoffstall scored for Everett.

""What a game,'' Northern coach Marcus Yeatts said. "Any time you go to penalties, it is a bit of a toss-up, but you need girls to step up. After missing our first two, our girls made some pressure penalties and our keeper made two pressure saves. I am really happy with how our girls have improved over the course of the season. We have a young group, but they played great tonight."

Northern, the No. 5 seed, will play at top-seeded McConnellsburg on Monday.
