NBC girls soccer team eliminated

McCONNELLSBURG — The Northern Bedford girls soccer team had their season ended on Monday night, losing 3-1 at McConnellsburg in the District 5 Class 1A semifinals.

“Going on the road to play the top team in the district is a difficult task,” NBC coach Marcus Yeatts said. “Our girls played with them for the first half.”

Serenity Rengifo scored a hat trick in the second half for McConnellsburg in a game that was 0-0 at halftime.

“It was the kind of game where it felt like the team that scored first would win and they got the first goal,” Yeatts said.

Olivia Helsel, on a cross from Kitt Reininger, scored for Northern when it was already down, 2-0.

“Our girls kept fighting but it wasn’t our night,” Yeatts said. “With only two seniors, we are looking to use this end to the season as a springboard for next year.”

NBC finishes at 11-8-1.
