Lady Tigers will take on State for district title

3 min read

HOLLIDAYSBURG -- Hollidaysburg advanced to the District 4-6 Class 3A team championship with a 3-0 win over Altoona on Monday.

Hollidaysburg, the No. 2 seed, will play at top-seeded State College in the final Wednesday.

Crosby Denis and Grace Muriceak won in straight sets in the top two singles matches against Altoona, as did the No. 2 doubles team of Sarah Urban and Katie Klingner.

Emma Moritz led her No. 3 singles match, and Olivia Panaro and Sarah Neatrour led the No. 1 doubles match when the victory was clinched.

"This was a big win for us,'' Hollidaysburg coach Brian Denis said. "This is the fourth time we have seen Altoona this year, and they have played us very competitively every time. It is very hard to beat a very good team three or four times in the same season, especially when they have some talented veteran returning players. After losing four of our top players to graduation, I was anxious to see how we would fill those roles, and all the girls have stepped up this entire season. We are excited to try and defend our district title on Wednesday against an outstanding State College team.''

SINGLES: 1, Denis, H, def. Graham, 6-0, 6-1; 2, Muriceak, H, def. C. Irwin, 6-1, 6-1; 3, Moritz, H, def. S. Irwin, 6-4, 1-2 (susp.).
