The John Kennedy Chapter of Trout Unlimited will host a Fly Tier Roundtable at the Allegheny Township Volunteer Fire Department Hall, 651 Sugar Run Rd., Altoona, on Thursday, Oct. 3, from 7-9 p.m.
This event is free and open to the public and will feature 12 of the best fly tiers from the area demonstrating their skills at creating a wide variety of fly patterns for trout and other species.
The 12 tiers scheduled to attend are Bill Anderson, John Brehm, Kevin Compton, Father Clem Gardner, Ron Holsinger, Shawn Holsinger, Jeremy Knapp, John Murone, Creg Strock, Dave Thomas, Brad Zeiders and Walt Young. This will be a great opportunity for fly tiers of all skill levels to learn and get some worthwhile tying tips from an array of experts of the craft.
Bears still perfect
BELLEFONTE -- The Great Commission boys soccer team improved to 8-0 with a 2-1 win over Centre County Christian Friday in high school action.
Van Nachtman scored both goals for the Bears, who led 1-0 at halftime. The winning goal came at the 74:00 minute mark.

BG triumphs
SOMERSET -- Bishop Guilfoyle Academy improved to 8-2 with a 2-1 win at Somerset in high school girls soccer action from Thursday.
Down 1-0 at the break, BG scored both goals in the second half, courtesy of Haley Degol and Layona Williams. Somerset fell to 6-5.
Mustangs downed
BLAIRSVILLE -- The Portage volleyball team dropped a 25-23, 25-17, 22-25, 25-16 loss at River Valley in a game from Thursday in high school action.
The Lady Mustangs got nine kills from Calla Miko, nine digs from Kylie Hess, 22 assists from Mya Selapak and four service points and four aces from Hess.
The Portage JVs lost, 25-20, 25-17.
