CHS girls tennis cruises past Rams

JOHNSTOWN -- The Central girls tennis team rolled past Richland, 5-0, without dropping a game, Wednesday in high school action.

Julia Ritchey, Kate Dunn and Zoe Grill won in singles play, and Brooklyn Coppersmith and Breslyn Beech, and Taryn Walters and Hailey Fries won in doubles action.

SINGLES: 1, Ritchey, C, def. Carabaugh, 6-0, 6-0; 2, Dunn, C, def. Rasa, 6-0, 6-0; 3, Grill, C, def. Stape, 6-0, 6-0.

DOUBLES: 1, Coppersmith-Beech, C, def. Lesto-Deesm, 6-0, 6-0; 2, Walters-Fries, C, def. Yarnick-Louder, 6-0, 6-0.

Records: Central (7-2).

GOLF

Portage boys triumph

LORETTO -- The Portage boys golf team beat two opponents in a tri-match at Immergun Golf Course.

Portage finished with a team total of 226, followed by Shanksville-Stonycreek with 241 and Ferndale with 267. Portage's Trae Kargo was the medalist with a 40, one stroke better than teammate Jonah Irvin.

PORTAGE (226): Kargo 40, Irvin 41, Zock 48, Patalune 48, Baker 49.

SHANKSVILLE-STONYCREEK (241): Mincek 45, Schlosser 47, Bowser 49, Galish 49, Kipp 51.

Altoona girls win

Ellie Filer shot a medalist score of 42 to lead the Altoona girls golf team past Penn Cambria, 143-174, at Park Hills Golf Club.

Clarissa Long shot a 50, and Sofia Hallinan had a 51. Mikayla Dubin shot a 55 for PC.
