CRESSON -- Sunny and breezy conditions were in play both days as the 47th annual Greater Altoona championship was decided this weekend.

Saturday's first-round action was held at the Park Hills Golf Club while Sunday's final round took place at Summit Country Club.

The men's individual championship became a three-man shootout on Sunday afternoon with Park Hills' Todd Homan, Scotch Valley's Sean Brannan and Sinking Valley's Andrew Ferguson separated by just a single shot entering their final nine holes. Brannan and Ferguson eventually pulled away and finished the end of regulation play tied at 1-over par, 145. The ensuing sudden-death playoff saw some stellar golf with both men making birdies on the first two playoff holes. Brannan eventually scored yet another birdie on the par-5, No. 3 hole to take home the title.

"The windy conditions made it tough out here today, but we both played well in the playoff," Brannan said. "Andrew played great all day. I have a lot of respect for his game, and I feel fortunate to come out on top."

On the women's side, Scotch Valley's Samantha Formeck won the individual title for the second year in a row with scores of 76 and 75 for a two-total of 151, 14 shots ahead of teammate Michelle Day. Crosby Denis, also from Scotch Valley, finished in third place at 173.

"I struck the ball really well both days, but I was a little disappointed with my putting," Formeck said. "I was happy to come out on top. This is a great tournament, and I really enjoy the competition."

The Scotch Valley women finished a dominant weekend of play by capturing the team title by an impressive 54 shots over second-place Sinking Valley.

The men's trophy went to Sinking Valley after finishing eight shots ahead of the Scotch Valley men.
