The United States team came into this year's Olympic golf competition in Paris as heavy favorites, and they certainly didn't disappoint.
After a particularly slow start, American Scottie Scheffler roared from behind during Sunday's final round to win gold, recording a blistering 9-under par 62 en route to victory.
While many athletes can become hardened by the rigors of competition, you could actually see the emotion pouring out of the 28-year-old golfer as he broke down in tears during the playing of our national anthem.
In fact, Scheffler's reaction during the entire medal ceremony was a testament to how much the win meant to him.
He has always been a likable athlete, but in addition to a gold medal, Scheffler won the hearts of nearly every American golf fan with last Sunday's win.
New PGA event in PA
The PGA Tour recently announced a new event for the 2025 season. The Truist Championship is set to be held at the historic Philadelphia Cricket Club.
Local golf fans willing to make the trip to eastern PA next year, will have an opportunity to see one of the best fields of the season as this tournament has been designated as a signature event. Nearly every one of the top 50 golfers in the world will be competing.
Though a final date for the tournament has not been set, it will most likely take place in May of next year.
Battle by the river
One of the best events in the area is set to take place in Bedford County this weekend.
The "Battle By the River" is a team competition between the neighboring clubs of Down River and the Bedford Elks.
Played in a "Ryder Cup" format, the match has been extremely competitive over the past several years and is an event that brings out plenty of emotion. Last year's battle was particularly exciting as the Bedford Elks recorded their first victory.
This year's match begins on Saturday at the Bedford Elks and finishes at Down River on Sunday.
PA senior amateur
Iron Masters' Ron Hinish had a strong finish in the Pennsylvania Senior Amateur Championship played earlier this week at Llanerch Country Club, just outside of Philadelphia.
Hinish scored rounds of 80 and 79 to finish in a tie for 22nd place in the super-senior division.
50 years ago this week
During the second week of August in 1974, PGA star Bob Toski gave a golfing exhibition at Sinking Valley Country Club.
Toski, the Tour's leading money-winner in 1954, performed a driving-range clinic for a crowd of more than 300, before playing an 18-hole match with local stand-out golfer Bo DelGrosso and local pros Frank Kiraly and Jim Mullen.
