Area players recognized on PHSSCA squad
Three players from the Mirror’s core coverage area were named to the first team of the Pennsylvania High School Softball Coaches Association All State team on Friday.
Claysburg-Kimmel senior Emalee Cavender and Glendale junior Madison Peterson were both picked as first-team utility players in Class 1A.
In Class 3A, Central senior Madison Kennedy was selected as a first-team outfielder.
Joining Kennedy as local players honored in 3A were teammate Alexis Fetzer (first base) and Central Cambria’s Katie Scott (catcher) and Katie George (outfield), who were all on the second team.
Claysburg-Kimmel’s Bella Francona was picked as a second-team third baseman in 1A.
Several other area players were also selected.
In Class 2A, four Everett players were recognized.
Addison Wood (first base) and Cloe Price (outfield) landed on the first team, and Marissa Hillegas (third base) and Jade Colledge (second base) were second-teamers.
Bedford’s Bailey Mickle made the first team in Class 3A at second base, and Chestnut Ridge’s Brittni Motter (pitcher) and Mya Wingard (shortstop) made the second team.
No area players from Class 4A, 5A or 6A made the first or second team.
The team was selected from almost 600 nominations by high school coaches and media members statewide. A first team and second team was voted on and chosen for each of the six classifications.
