Altoona's Brad Benson has been named one of the top 100 players in New York Giants' history.
Benson played 11 seasons as the Giants' left offensive tackle, and he played a key role in helping the team win the Super Bowl XXI in 1986.
He also earned All-Pro honors in 1986 and played in the Pro Bowl.
Benson, now 68, was an eighth-round draft choice out of Penn State in 1977 by the New England Patriots.
However, the Pats cut him, and in 1978, he went on to sign with the Giants, where he found a home at left tackle.
Benson started 123 of 137 regular-season games in New York along with seven playoff games.
Prior to going to Penn State, Benson played football for the Mountain Lions and became Altoona's first PIAA wrestling champion in 1973.
The Giants are celebrating their 100th season with their top 100-player program, which is being announced 10 players at a time on the team's website leading up to the 2024 season.
Benson was rated 99th by the Giants' selection committee comprised of Bob Papa (chair), Pete Abitante, Ernie Accorsi, Judy Battista, John Berti, Linda Cohn, Vinny DiTrani, Bob Glauber, Joe Horrigan, Jay Horwitz, Peter King, Gary Myers, Paul Schwartz and George Willis.
The team will wear a logo marking its 100-year history on its uniforms and will be recognized at the Giants' home opener against the Minnesota Vikings on Sept. 8 at MetLife Stadium.
