District 12 champion Monsignor Bonner defeated WPIAL runner-up Bethel Park, 6-4, in the PIAA Class 5A baseball quarterfinals on Friday.
Bonner advanced to play Hollidaysburg in Monday's semifinal round in a game that will be held at East Pennsboro High School at 4 p.m.
Monsignor Bonner batted around in the bottom of the first inning after Mike Brucker gave Bethel Park a 2-0 lead in the top of the inning with a two-run homer.
Bonner starting pitcher Harry Carr had a two-run single that put his team ahead and helped build a 4-2 lead after an inning.
In the bottom of the second inning, Austin Cannon hit a two-run home run to extend Monsignor Bonner's advantage to 6-2.
Bethel Park got back into the game with two runs in the top of the fourth inning but could get no closer.
Jack Redding pitched the final two innings to earn the save for the Friars, a member of the Philadelphia Catholic League.
The winner of Monday's semifinal game will play in the PIAA Class 5A championship on Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Penn State University's Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The Golden Tigers will be playing in the state baseball semifinals for the first time in school history.
