Tigers’ next game set for Johnstown

PIAA playoffs

By From Mirror reports 2 min read

Two of the three remaining teams in the Mirror's core coverage area will be playing relatively close to home in the PIAA baseball and softball quarterfinals when the tournaments resume on Thursday.

The Hollidaysburg baseball team will play WPIAL champion Penn Trafford in Johnstown at Sargent's Stadium at the Point at 4 p.m. in a Class 5A quarterfinal game. The winner will play either District 12 champion Monsignor Bonner or WPIAL runner-up Bethel Park in the semifinals on Monday.

Claysburg-Kimmel's softball team will play Carmichaels, the WPIAL third-place finisher, at Berlin Brothersvalley High School at 4 p.m. in a 1A quarterfinal contest. It's possible that if the Lady Bulldogs win, they could get District 6 runner-up West Branch in the semifinals Monday in a rematch of the district title game if the Lady Warriors beat WPIAL champion Chartiers-Houston in another quarterfinal game taking place on Thursday at Mount Aloysius.

Bishop Carroll Catholic has a long trip after its win over defending PIAA champion Clarion in the first round. The Huskies will take on District 10 runner-up Saegertown at Seneca Valley High School in Harmony, the same site Central's baseball team played its first-round game, at noon in a Class 1A baseball game. The winner of that contest will play either WPIAL runner-up Eden Christian or WPIAL third-place finisher Avella in the semifinals on Monday.

In other games of note, the District 5 Class 3A champion Chestnut Ridge softball team will travel to Gateway High School for a quarterfinal game against District 10 champion Sharon at noon, and defending PIAA Class 2A baseball champion Bald Eagle Area will take on District 11 champion Williams Valley at Bloomsburg University at 3 p.m.
