PSU men in Slam tourney
UNIVERSITY PARK - The Penn State men's basketball team is set to compete in the 2024 Sunshine Slam, which will take place November 25-26 at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach.
Penn State will face two of Clemson, San Francisco and Fordham as participants in the Beach bracket, while the Ocean bracket will consist of Radford, Chicago State, Drexel, and Purdue Fort Wayne.
The Sunshine Slam will consist of a pair of semifinal round games in each bracket on Nov. 25 and a championship and consolation game in each bracket on Nov. 26. Champions will be crowned for both brackets.
Matchups and schedules for the 2024 Sunshine Slam will be announced at a later date.
Mets release upset pitcher
NEW YORK -- Jorge Lopez has been cut by the struggling New York Mets, a day after the reliever threw his glove into the stands following his ejection at Citi Field. The Mets have seven days to trade or release Lopez or to assign him outright to the minors if he goes unclaimed.
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza had called the outburst "not acceptable" and said it would be handled internally. Lopez expressed no remorse. Lopez gave up a two-run homer to Shohei Ohtani late in a 10-3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The right-hander was ejected moments later for shouting at third base umpire Ramon De Jesus.
