CHAMBERSBURG -- Bron Mosley won the shot put with a throw of 56 feet, 9 inches, and Ashlyn Noce won the 3200-meter run in 11:17.1 for Altoona at the Mid-Penn track and field championships on Saturday.
Kihlee Noel finished third in the discus with a throw of 119-4 and was fifth in the shot with a distance of 34-3.5. Kenzie Wilt was tied for fifth in the high jump, clearing 5 feet.
The Altoona girls finished third in both the 1600 and 3200 relay.
Central goes 2-7
CORAOPOLIS -- Central went 2-7 at the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart high school boys volleyball tournament on Saturday.
The Dragons split with Deer Lakes, losing 25-17 and winning 25-23, and Mount Lebanon, winning 25-15 and losing 26-24. Central lost to Thomas Jefferson, 25-21, 25-21 and Baldwin, 25-12, 25-15.
The Dragons fell in the first round of the playoffs to West Shamokin, 25-10. The Dragons will play West Shamokin in the District 6 playoffs on Wednesday.
Logan Hummel had 45 assists. Christian Heuston added 21 kills and four blocks. Hayden Smith had nine kills and eight blocks, and Bryson Books contributed 12 kills.
Altoona downed
PITTSBURGH -- Altoona fell to Penn-Trafford, 25-15, in the quarterfinals of the Shaler Invitational on Saturday in high school boys volleyball.
The Mountain Lions went 2-4 in pool play, sweeping Cochranton, 25-19, 27-25, and losing to Shaler, 25-13, 25-18, and Meadville, 25-12, 25-18.
Caleb Fries had 24 kills, three blocks, three aces and five digs. Sam Kessinger finished with 52 assists and five digs, and Nino Yohn had 16 digs.
The Altoona junior varsity team competed in the Montour JV Invitational and lost to Montour, 25-14, 25-15 and split with Upper Saint Clair (27-26, 17-25) and North Hills (27-26, 11-25) before the Mountain Lions lost to Norwin, 25-16, in the quarterfinals.
