ALEXANDRIA -- The Juniata Valley girls finished second out of four teams, while the boys were in fourth at the Juniata Valley Invitational in high school track and field action on Wednesday.
Maddie Hopsicker captured three events for the Lady Green Hornets by winning the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes, while Madison Sneath took first in the 800 and 1600 runs.
Hopsicker was selected as the meet's Outstanding Runner Performer, and Ellie Manyara was picked as the Outstanding Jumper Performer after winning the triple jump and finishing second in the long jump.
JV ended with 72 points, which was behind Southern Huntingdon's 117 and ahead of West Branch with 30 and Mount Union with 25.
On the boys side, Bryce Weirich was the lone Hornet winner as he captured the pole vault.
The JV boys had 44 points, while the Rockets won with 96, and were followed by the Warriors with 64.5 and the Trojans with 52.5.

Altoona falls in semis
STATE COLLEGE -- Fifth-seeded Altoona fell to State College by a score of 3-0 in District 4-6 Class 3A team tennis semifinal action.
With State High claiming both doubles matches and No. 3 singles, the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches did not finish.
The loss ended the Mountain Lions' season at 12-8.
The Little Lions move into Friday's championship match with Hollidaysburg.

Altoona falls to Carlisle
Altoona recognized nine seniors before the match but couldn't use that to spark itself in a 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-16) loss to Carlisle at the Altoona Fieldhouse in high school boys volleyball.
Sam Kessinger fronted the Mountain Lions with 24 assists and 10 digs, Caleb Fries delivered 10 kills and 10 digs, Noah Fries had 22 digs, and Nino Yohn came up with 11 digs.

MARTINSBURG -- Central dropped three straight sets to West Shamokin (25-13, 25-23, 25-18) to fall to 5-9 on the season in high school boys volleyball.
Logan Hummel led the Dragons with seven assists and seven service points, while Bryson Brooks tallied six digs and three kills, and Christian Heuston had three kills and three blocks.
