Two outstanding student-athletes are being recognized as the Blair County Sports Hall of Fame's 2024 scholarship recipients.
Hailey Kravetz of Altoona Area High School and Braden Ewing of Tyrone Area High School will each be presented with a $2,000 check at the Hall of Fame's banquet and induction ceremony April 13 at the Blair County Convention Center.
Reliance Bank sponsors the scholarship program for the Hall of Fame, which has presented scholarships annually since 1988 and has now awarded a total of $134,000 to deserving student-athletes.
The Hall of Fame balances the athletic and academic prowess of the nominees, along with their participation in community service.
Kravetz is a Lady Lion standout in track & field and soccer.
As a junior, she won a PIAA medal (seventh place) in the 300-meter hurdles and also broke her own school record (44.94) in the state preliminary round. She is a two-time District 6 champion (100- and 300-meter hurdles).
In soccer, Kravetz scored a school-record 45 goals as a senior, leading Altoona to a District 6 Class 4A championship and a win over Erie McDowell in a subregional game. She is a three-time first team Altoona Mirror soccer all-star.
Kravetz ranks 10th in Altoona's graduating class of 451 with a 98.8 grade-point average. She scored 1170 on her SAT.
Kravetz is active in the National Honor Society and Student Council as an executive committee member. She helped organize a benefit soccer game with proceeds donated for breast cancer research.
She also volunteers at her church's food pantry and gives swimming lessons.
Hailey is the daughter of John and Beth Kravetz. She plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh, where she hopes to compete for the track & field team.
Ewing won seven letters in wrestling and football.
He comes off the PIAA wrestling tournament, where he took an eighth-place medal in the 285-pound weight class.
He is a four-time PIAA wrestling qualifier and the 2024 District 6 heavyweight champion. He plans to attend and wrestle at Brown University.
Ewing won first-team all-state honors as an offensive lineman (PA Sportswriters) and second-team as a defensive lineman (PA coaches).
He ranked eighth in Tyrone's senior class of 115 with a grade-point average of 4.24 and scored 1310 on his SATs.
Ewing, the vice president of his class, is the son of William and Sarah Ewing.
He is equally gifted on the non-athletic stage as has performed in Tyrone musicals "Grease" and "Newsies," along with being in the school's POPS Choir.
He is active in his church, operating the computer each Sunday for Zoom services.
