More gold for Shackley

LEWISBURG -- Bedford Area High School senior Leah Shackley earned another PIAA gold medal on Friday.

Shackley won the 100-yard butterfly for the third straight season with a time of 50.29 in the PIAA Class 2A Swimming and Diving Championships at Bucknell University. It was also a meet and pool record.

It was Shackley's fifth career PIAA gold medal.

Shackley swam a 52.20 in the prelims to earn the top seed heading to the finals by more than 3 seconds.

Shackley will be going for a third straight 100 backstroke gold medal in Saturday's competition. She is top-seeded in the event.

The Tyrone Area boys 100-yard free relay team of Spencer Dunklebarger, Isaac Yeskey, Cameron Gallagher and Lucas Bonsell swam a time of 1:37.79 in the prelims and finished with the 31st best time. The time was 1 second slower than its district time.

Central Cambria's Ethan Haycisak will swim in the boys 500 freestyle event on Saturday.

Altoona edged

The Altoona Area High School boys tennis team opened the 2024 season with a 3-2 setback to Cedar Crest at Gorilla House Gym.

Brady Sassano won a singles match for the Mountain Lions, and Max Chile and Sean Ratchford won the No. 2 doubles match.

TYRONE -- The Tyrone Area High School boys tennis team opened its season with a 5-0 loss to Westmont Hilltop.

SINGLES: 1, Ragno, WH, def. Fleck, 6-1, 6-1; 2, Masterson, WH, def. Walk, 6-0, 6-1; 3, Allen, WH, def. Newlin, 6-0, 6-2.

DOUBLES: 1, Hoffman-Poad, WH, def. Dasher-Shock, 6-0, 6-0; 2, Selders-Jones, WH, def. Harpster-Isenberg, 6-1, 6-0.
