Heights breaks out big bats

COMMODORE -- Cambria Heights erupted for nine runs in the second and third innings to break out to a lead it would hold on to in a 13-4 victory over Purchase Line Monday in high school softball play.

Meghan Wholaver and Brea Kountz both went 3-for-5 at the plate with Wholaver recording two RBIs for the Lady Highlanders, while Gina Lane knocked in three runs.

Winning pitcher Sidney Nihart and Jayden Ivory combined to strike out 14 batters for Heights.

Vikings win big

FLINTON -- Glendale pounded out 16 hits in earning a 13-3 six inning win over Juniata Valley.

Madison Peterson delivered a double, triple, drove in four runs and earned the win on the mound with 10 strikeouts for the Lady Vikings.

Jayden Fry drove in three runs and Alyson Buterbaugh had two RBIs for Glendale.

Kassidy Watson smacked a solo homer for the Lady Green Hornets.

B-A falls short

BELLWOOD -- Bellwood-Antis rallied for eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning but ultimately fell in extra innings in a 10-8 loss in eight innings to Huntingdon.

The Lady Blue Devils took an 8-5 lead with after the bottom of the sixth but the Lady Bearcats came back with three to knot the contest in the seventh.

After a scoreless bottom of the seventh by B-A, Huntingdon pushed two runs across in the top of the eighth before the Blue Devils managed none in their half to end the game.

London McKee doubled, tripled and knocked in two runs for B-A, while Lainey Quick and Parker Martin had two hits apiece.

Comeback for MU

MOUNT UNION -- Northern Bedford led by two after the top of the fifth inning before Mount Union put eight runs up on the board en route to handing the Lady Panthers a 9-5 loss.

Lacy McIlnay led NBC with two hits and two RBIs, while Miranda Brown and Madison Lemin tallied two hits each.

Portage survives

CLYMER -- Portage overcame a five-run first inning by Penns Manor by putting up seven of its own in the fourth and fifth innings to came away with a 12-8 win.

Winning pitcher Paige Phillips came on in relief and struck out four, and helped her own cause with three hits and three RBIs for the Lady Mustangs.

Lydnsey Castel delivered three hits and two RBIs, while Tori Harrison had two hits and knocked in two runs for Portage.

EBENSBURG -- Winning pitcher Aubrey Ruddek gave up just two hits, struck out six and helped herself at the plate with a single and triple to lead Central Cambria to a 9-1 win over West Branch.

Olivia Janosik, Katie George and Camryn Matlin collected two hits each for the Lady Red Devils in their season opener.
