The Altoona boys volleyball team opened the 2024 season Wednesday night with a 25-13, 25-14, 25-20 win over Central in high school action at the Fieldhouse.
The Mountain Lions got 13 assists and 10 digs from Sam Kessinger to go with five kills from Caleb Fries, five digs from Nino Yohn and four kills each from Noah Fries and Luke Mitchell.
Central got 13 assists from Logan Hummel, six kills and four blocks from Christian Heuston, six kills from Bryson Brooks and three kills and three blocks from Hayden Smith.

Hollidaysburg swept Bishop McCort, 5-0, to remain unbeaten at 4-0 in high school boys tennis action at the Summit on Wednesday.
Ben Johnson, Garrett Bouchard and Michael Waibel won singles matches. Yvan Chen and Felix Xu teamed up to win at No. 1 doubles, and Aamir Azad and Jacob Sidney won at No. 2 doubles.

HOLLIDAYSBURG - Hollidaysburg took advantage of 13 walks and five hit batsmen in a 13-6 win in six innings over Bellwood-Antis in a season-opening game for both teams from Tuesday.
Winning pitcher Carson Kensinger struck out nine and walked five.
Justin Herman had a three-run double for the Tigers while Brady Steiner had two hits and two RBIs. Jake Hileman and Bradey Michael each had two RBIs.
Bellwood-Antis got a three-run homer from Zach Pier.
