Three wrestlers from the Mirror coverage area are seeded No. 1 going into the District 6 Class 2A and 3A Tournament this weekend at the AAHS Fieldhouse.
Tyrone's Braden Ewing and Huntingdon/Williamsburg's Andrew McMonagle were tabbed top seeds at the zoom District 6 Class 2A Tournament seeding meeting on Tuesday night.
The District 6 Class 3A zoom seeding was held Wednesday night, and Altoona's Braiden Weaver is the lone Blair County top seed, holding down the top spot at 114.
Teammate Luke Sipes, a two-time district champion, is seeded second behind Central Mountain's three-time finalist and two-time runner-up Griffin Walizer at 152.
Ewing is the top seed at 285, while McMonagle is the top seed at 189. Both seniors will be looking to win their first District 6 titles.
Penn Cambria two-time District 6 champion Trent Hoover is the second seed at 152 behind Bishop McCort freshman Melvin Miller. Miller beat Hoover, 5-2, in the Laurel Highlands Conference Tournament finals.
Tyrone's Kyle Scott (172) and Glendale's Daniel Williams (285) are second seeds in Class 2A, while Hollidaysburg's Logan Krupka (121) and Mitchell Baronner (172) are seeded second in Class 3A.
Oddly enough, powerhouse Bishop McCort only has three No. 1 seeds. Unbeaten Bo Bassett is seeded second at 139.
The District 6 Class 2A Tournament begins at 10 a.m. on Friday. Saturday's action begins at 9 a.m. with Class 2A consolations and 3A quarterfinals.
The championship finals and third-place bouts for both classes will all be wrestled in the final session, which starts after the 5:45 p.m. District 6 Hall of Fame ceremony and parade of champions.
The top three at every weight in Class 3A return to the Fieldhouse next weekend for the Northwest Regional. The top six at every weight in Class 2A advance to the Southwest Regional Tournament, set for March 1-2 at the Fieldhouse.
Tyrone's Andrew Weaver (189) is seeded third in 2A. Central Cambria's Jake Wilson (139) and Penn Cambria's Nick Summerville (215) are fourth seeds, while Glendale's George Campbell (172) is seeded fifth. Central has two No. 6 seeds in Brooks Matthews (107) and Kaden Horn (127).
In Class 3A, Altoona has four wrestlers seeded third in Gavin Ciampoli (127), Phillip Sarbo (133), Wyatt Young (139) and Evan Boose (215).
Hollidaysburg has third-seeded wrestlers in Landon Krupka (114), Tyson Bridenbaugh (189) and Wyatt Maines (285). Returning champion Carson Krupka (127) is seeded fourth.
