CLEARFIELD -- With Tyrone forfeiting three weight classes and Clearfield recording four pins and a technical fall, there wasn't much drama in the first nine weight classes.
There was some drama in the next two as Clearfield and Tyrone matched up talented wrestlers at 172 and 189, respectively.
The Bison split those two weights as returning Class 3A state fourth-placer Brady Collins moved up to 172 and beat Class 2A state qualifier Kyle Scott, 7-2 and Tyrone's Andrew Weaver edged Carter Freeland by one point for the second straight year, 6-5.
The 4-6 Golden Eagles won the last two bouts by fall, but the big start carried the 6-0 Bison to a 50-21 win on Thursday night at Arthur J. Weiss Gymnasium.
"We did not wrestled well at all tonight," Tyrone coach Quentin Wright said. "We've kind of been descending in our wrestling as we've gone down through the past week between Huntingdon (a 48-15 loss) and now. I knew it was going to be tough."
"Overall, I thought we did well," Clearfield coach Jeff Aveni said. "We knew they had those good guys in the upper weights. I thought we went out down low and just went after it. We really scored the bonus points where we should have. We had a great win at 172 and I thought we had a great performance at 189."
Clearfield has had three starters out, while Tyrone had two, including senior Lukas Walk (shoulder).
Clearfield got forfeit wins from Xavier Lutz and David Magnuson at 107 and 114, respectively, to start the dual meet.
Clearfield's Dakota Shugarts moved up to 121 and recorded a fall in 1:47. After Clearfield's Bryndin Chamberlain (127) won by forfeit, Tyrone's Logan Rumberger took a forfeit win at 133.
Bison 139-pounder Colton Ryan got the fall in 4:56. Clearfield's Colton Bumbarger rolled to a pin in 1:44 at 145 pounds.
Ty Aveni only needed 17 seconds to record a fall at 152, giving Clearfield a 42-6 lead. At 160, Clearfield's Will Domico scored seven takedowns in a 19-4 technical fall.
That set the stage for Collins and Scott. Collins (10-0) came out aggressively and notched two takedowns of Scott (15-2). Scott escaped with 50 seconds left in the second and was down 4-2 entering the third.
Scott nearly got back points from the top in the third, but Collins avoided danger, escaped and took him down to set the final.
"We took Brady up to wrestle Kyle Scott. That's a great matchup for not only them but for the fans," Coach Aveni said. "(Collins) stayed low, and he was on the ankles, he was able to finish every time."
"Brady Collins is one of the better kids in the state," Wright said. "Tonight I chose to go with putting our best kids against their best kids. Brady jumped up to 172 because he wanted that match. He wrestled really tough and kind of caught Kyle in a few different positions.
"Coach Aveni put his best kids against our better kids no matter if they were going to win or lose. I really appreciate that. It's always good to get those good matchups."
Last season, Weaver beat Freeland, 2-1. There was more offense this season. The bout was tied, 2-2, in the second when Weaver (14-3) slipped Freeland for a takedown. But Freeland escaped and did the same move for a takedown and a 5-4 lead.
Weaver escaped and the bout was tied, 5-5, heading to the third. Weaver escaped early in the third and appeared headed to a comfortable win. But after a re-start with 4 seconds left, Freeland shot it and was close to a takedown as time expired. Referee Nick Sipes ruled no takedown.
"Weaver wrestled very smart," Wright said. "It was a close match and sometimes you have those matches. He got the takedowns when he needed them. At the end, he made it a little bit too close."
Tyrone's Richard Rawlings followed with a pin in 1:25 at 215. Teammate Braden Ewing (15-1) won by fall in 2:51 at 285.
Both teams are off until the Laurel Highlands Championships on Jan. 5-6 at Tyrone.
"We're trying (the long layoff) this year. Let's see what happens," Wright said. "With the guys wrestling flat weight and wrestling in tough tournaments, they're a little worn out. They're going to be fresh going into that Laurel Highlands tournament."
