HOLLIDAYSBURG -- Altoona defeated Hollidaysburg, 8-4, in the third annual high school boys golf Big Cat Challenge Wednesday at Scotch Valley Country Club.
The Big Cat Challenge is a two-man team match play event. Each school has four two-man teams.
Altoona won with the teams of Landon Baker and Wyatt Young and Will Sankey and Krieghoff Cumming each earning 2¢ points. The team of Kai Hillegass and Mason Lynn won two points.
Hollidaysburg's team of Jared Smith and Tyler Steiner won two points.
The school who earns the most points wins the challenge and earns a team trophy and $500 for their team to be used for equipment. The losing school gets $250 for equipment.
The teams eat lunch together and then play in the tournament with the goal of fostering positive community relationships through the sport of golf. The food, trophy, and equipment money have all been donated by Scott Lawhead, a local businessman and longtime supporter of local high school golf.

Portage triumphs
PORTAGE -- Portage topped River Valley, 25-20, 23-25, 25-17, 25-18, in girls volleyball behind 12 kills and 16 digs by Annie Davis. Trissa Smith added 24 assists, 21 service points and 11 digs.

NBC tops C-K
CLAYSBURG -- Northern Bedford edged Claysburg-Kimmel, 25-6, 25-19, 20-25, 20-25, 15-12, in volleyball on the Lady Bulldogs' Pink Night fundraiser.
Halle Lingenfelter had 26 service points, and Madison Miller contributed 21 kills for Northern. Emalee Cavender had 17 kills for C-K.
