Mountain Lion boys get two wins

MONROEVILLE -- The Altoona boys cross country team won twice on Wednesday against Latrobe and Gateway in high school action at Boyce Park.

The Altoona boys (2-0) beat Latrobe (24-35) and Gateway (24-35) behind Cam Woomer who took second in 18:49.

The Lady Lions went 1-1, beating Gateway (15-50) while falling to Latrobe (23-32). Altoona freshman Ashlyn Noce took third in 23:08.

The Latrobe girls are 2-0 while their boys team is 1-1.

Berkhimer shines

CRESSON -- Central's Lanee Berkhimer won the girls race in 21:48 in a meet involving Penn Cambria and Forest Hills. The Lady Panthers' top runner was Leah Shoemaker who took third (24:10).

On the boys side, Penn Cambria's Josh Stolarski was third (19:05) while Central's Bradon Allison took fifth (19:20).

The Lady Panthers beat Forest Hills (24-31) and Central (15-50), which also lost to Forest Hills (15-50). The Forest Hills boy beat Penn Cambria (18-43) and Central (15-50), which also lost to Penn Cambria (15-50).

Corte is tops

MARION CENTER -- Portage's Gabe Corte won the boys race (19:21) in a meet involving Marion Center and Cambria Heights. The Highlanders top runner was Daniel Hock (7th, 21:08).

On the girls side, Cambria Heights' Savannah Hoover took second (23:03), while Portage's Alex Chobany was third (23:05).

Portage's boys beat Cambria Heights (20-35) but lost to Marion Center (26-31), which also beat Cambria Heights (17-43). The Portage girls edged Heights (27-30) and lost to Marion Center (19-36), which beat Heights, (19-36).

Both Portage teams are 2-1.

Hornets get split

ALEXANDRIA -- Juniata Valley's boys and girls split with Southern Huntingdon and Mount Union, as the girls won both of their matches while the boys dropped both of their matches.

The JV girls beat Mount Union (19-40) and Southern (16-41). Madison Sneath won the race for JV with a time of 24:11. The JV boys lost to Southern (24-35 and Mount Union (15-50).
