For the second time in his eight-year NFL career, Luke Rhodes has become the highest-paid player at his position.
The Indianapolis Colts on Friday announced they've signed Rhodes to a four-year contract extension worth $6.465 million, including a $1.1 million signing bonus and $2.5 million guaranteed, according to NFL reporter Tom Pelissero.
Rhodes' agent, Evan Brennan, said both contracts (the first signed in 2019) mark the biggest in NFL history for a long snapper.
Reached Friday afternoon, the Hollidaysburg native said he's "beyond blessed."
"All glory and honor go to the loving God I serve," Rhodes texted. "I am honored by the Colts organization to be recognized and valued as an important part of this team."
Rhodes, a 2011 graduate of Hollidaysburg Area High School, is Indy's second-most tenured player and earned all-pro honors in 2020 and 2021. He has appeared in 101 games since 2016, missing just one game during that span.
Rhodes, 30, was an undrafted linebacker out of William & Mary who was signed to the Colts' practice squad in 2016 after he was released by Tampa Bay. Once in Indy, he transformed into a long snapper.
As the season approaches with the Colts' opener on Sunday against visiting Jacksonville, Rhodes paid tribute to his support system.
"I'm proud to represent where I came from and grew up playing in Hollidaysburg, the support and love from friends and family back home has been moving and unwavering my entire career," he said. "I thank my mom (Margaret) and siblings (Sam, Clair) for continued support and love, and for my dad (Doug, recently departed) whom I know is looking down on me proud as ever. Most importantly my wife (Hannah), for all of the hard work she puts in keeping everything in order at home and her endless love and encouragement. And, of course, my (two) boys that give me drive and motivation every single day. They're the joy of my life."
