Altoona volleyball upsets Lady Eagles

MECHANICSBURG -- The Altoona girls volleyball evened its record at 3-3 Wednesday night, thanks to a 25-21, 25-22, 18-25, 25-20 win at Cumberland Valley in high school play.

It was the Lady Eagles' first loss this season (6-1).

The Lady Spikers got 14 kills from Ellaina Saylor to go with 16 digs from Aunye Counsman and 16 assists from Jorja Treece.

Teammate Sami Page added 22 assists to go with nine kills from Ella Albright and five kills from Annalyse Yost.

Lady Lions triumph

The Altoona Area High School girls tennis team celebrated senior day on Wednesday with a 6-1 win over Huntingdon at Mansion Park.

The Lady Lions (9-2) got singles wins from Courtney Irwin, Bella Graham, Olivia McMinn, Andie Adams and Mary Worley.

Doubles victories were earned by the team of Madison Markett and Jade Lopez-Oakes.

Seniors honored included McMinn, Abby Donlan, Lopez-Oakes and Lily Adams.

EBENSBURG -- Central Cambria defeated Bishop Guilfoyle, 4-1, in a tennis match from Tuesday.

The Lady Red Devils got singles wins from Marley Ratchford, Lydia Paskowski and Allie Morgan. Their doubles team of Anna Stock and Liv Heinzeroth also won.

The Lady Marauders received a doubles victory from the team of Kaitlyn Link and Nina Gingrich.

Marauders perfect

The Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School girl soccer team handed Bellefonte its first loss on Wednesday, beating the Lady Red Raiders, 2-1, at Tom Irwin Field.

BG, which is unbeaten at 9-0, got two goals from Nicole Hawk in the first half.

Bellefonte (6-1-1-) got a goal from Angelina Kasak.

The Lady Tigers, who were tied at 1-1 at halftime, improved to 8-1.

Tyrone (2-6) got its lone goal from Lainey Quick.

CRESSON -- Marjwok Ojha scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal to lead Central Cambria past Penn Cambria, 4-3, in girls soccer.

Ava Barra scored twice for the Lady Red Devils (4-4).

Penn Cambria (4-5) got two goals from Madison Farabaugh, one of which tied the game at 3-3 in the second half at the 30:56 mark.

The Lady Highlanders got a hat trick from Brooklyn Galinis.

Township, unable to hold on to a 3-1 halftime lead, improved to 7-0.

Izzy Slezak scored a hat trick for Conemaugh Township, including the game-winner in overtime.
