Lengthy road trips for C-K, Glendale

Claysburg-Kimmel and Glendale will both be traveling more than an hour Thursday when the Inter-County Conference rivals continue their runs in the PIAA Class 1A softball championship tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs will take on Chartiers-Houston, the third seed out of the WPIAL, at Hempfield High School in Greensburg at 2 p.m. The Lady Vikings will travel to Somerset High School to take on WPIAL runner-up Carmichaels at 4 p.m.
Six of the remaining eight teams in 1A are from either District 6 or the WPIAL.
The winners will play in the semifinals on Monday, and the state championship would be Friday at 11 a.m. at Penn State’s Nittany Lion Softball Park.
In the 2A softball field, Everett will take on District 9 champion Cranberry in DuBois at 3 p.m. on Thursday, and Chestnut Ridge will take on District 10 champion Jamestown in a Class 3A quarterfinal at North Allegheny High School in Wexford at 4 p.m.
In the 3A baseball field, District 6 champion Philipsburg-Osceola will take on District 9 champion Punxsutawney at Showers Field in DuBois at 5:30 p.m.
