Claysburg-Kimmel and Glendale will attempt to complete the final step in setting up an all-District 6 contest in the PIAA Class 1A softball championship game when they try to come out on top in their PIAA semifinal games on Monday.
The Lady Bulldogs will take on WPIAL champion Union Area at Norwin High School in South Huntingdon at 2 p.m. Claysburg-Kimmel has already beaten the WPIAL No. 3 and No. 4 seeds on its path to the semifinals.
C-K, the District 6 champion, was in the PIAA Class 2A semifinals a year ago but lost.
Glendale, the District 6 third-place finisher, lost to the Lady Bulldogs, 8-1, in the District 6 semifinals but rebounded to beat Ferndale in the play-in game. The Lady Vikings pulled off extra-inning wins over Meyersdale and Carmichaels in their PIAA playoff games to return to the PIAA 1A semifinals for the second straight season.
Glendale will take on District 11 champion Tri-Valley at Central Mountain at 3 p.m.
The winners of Monday's semifinal games will play in the PIAA championship on Friday at Penn State's Nittany Lion Softball Complex at 11 a.m.
In Class 2A, two regional teams also remain.
District 6 champion Bald Eagle Area will take on District 4 champion South Williamsport in the first game of Glendale's doubleheader at Central Mountain with first pitch expected to be at 1 p.m.
The Lady Eagles could be playing District 5 champion Everett in the championship if the Lady Warriors can top WPIAL champion Neshannock in their semifinal game at Heindl Field in DuBois at 2 p.m.
The 2A championship game is Thursday at 11 a.m. at Penn State.
District 6 champion Juniata will play District 10 champion Jamestown in the Class 3A semifinals following Everett's game in DuBois with an expected start time of 4 p.m.
In baseball, Mount Aloysius will play host to District 5 champion Southern Fulton playing District 9 champ Clarion at 2 p.m. on Monday in the 1A semifinals.
District 6 champion Bald Eagle Area takes on District 10 champion Sharpsville at Showers Field in DuBois in the 2A semifinals while District 6 runner-up Mount Union takes on District 3 winner Kutztown at Big Spring High School at 4 p.m. in the other semifinal. The winners play Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park in University Park.
In Class 4A, District 6 champion Bellefonte takes on WPIAL champion Hopewell in Homer City at 1st Commonwealth Bank Field at 4:30 p.m.
