Central mercy rules Golden Eagles

MARTINSBURG -- Jeff Hoenstine collected three hits, including two doubles, and Baron Dionis and Dalton Metzger added two hits in Central's 14-4 six-inning win over Tyrone in high school baseball action on Monday.

Metzger drove in three runs, and Luke Bettwy and Tro McNichol each added two RBIs. Kaleb Mountain was the winning pitcher, striking out four.

Tyrone's Ross Gampe had two hits, including a home run, and Zach LeGars added two hits, including a triple.

Portage prevails

RURAL VALLEY -- Portage took advantage of 13 walks and two hit batsmen in beating West Shamokin, 13-1, in five innings with the help of just two hits in high school baseball play.

Jacob McCoy allowed just one hit and one earned run on the mound for Portage in earning the win, and Mason Kargo, Isaac Jubina and Bill Dobrowlsky each drove in a run.

Westmont teams win

It will be an all-Westmont Hilltop final in the District 6 Class 2A Doubles Tennis Championship on Wednesday.

Westmont's Charlie Snee and Easton Ragno, the top seed, will face second-seeded Sebastian Masterson and Brett Hoffman of Westmont in the final at Westmont Hilltop High School at noon Wednesday. Both advanced through Monday's play at Gorilla House.

The Class 3A tournament will be held today at Gorilla House through the semifinals with the championship match slated for Wednesday.
