RURAL VALLEY -- West Shamokin swept Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic, 25-8, 25-12, 25-17, in the District 6 Class 2A high school boys volleyball semifinals Wednesday night.
Despite the loss, senior Ian Bennett finished with 1,500 assists in his three years with the Marauders.
Bennett, who is headed to Juniata to play football in college, had 22 assists, four service points, a dig and a block for BG on Wednesday.
Matthew Woolridge and Ryan Donoughe each had seven kills for the Marauders, who finished the season 4-11.
West Shamokin will play the winner of tonight's Forest Hills-DuBois semifinal at Mount Aloysius on Tuesday in the District 6 championship game.

Vincent shines
PHILIPSBURG -- The Hollidaysburg softball team improved to 13-6, thanks to a 7-2 win at Philipsburg-Osceola in high school action.
Winning pitcher Olivia Vincent scattered seven hits over seven innings, giving up two earned runs. She struck out 14 and walked six.
Offensively, the Lady Tigers, who led 4-1 after two innings, got two hits and an RBI from Vincent to go with two RBIs from Abby Steiner. Olivia Knab added two hits and an RBI to go with two hits from Rachel Musselman.
Hollidaysburg is at Claysburg-Kimmel today.

Hollidaysburg wins
HOLLIDAYSBURG -- The Hollidaysburg baseball team knocked off Philipsburg-Osceola, 9-3, in high shool action.
The Mounties came into the game at 13-6. The Tigers improved to 9-10.
Brady Steiner worked four innings in relief for the win, and also had two hits and two RBIs. Teammate Jake Hileman added two hits, including a two-run home run. Matt Smith added three hits and three runs scored.
The Golden Tigers play Central Mountain Monday at Bald Eagle Area for the District 6 Class 5A title.
