Over the past few years, the Tyrone and Central varsity baseball teams have won PIAA championships and the road to a state title and the District 6 championship games went through Altoona's PNG Field.
That won't be the case this season as the Curve start a 12-game homestand on Tuesday, May 23. The District 6 baseball finals are scheduled to begin the day before.
Instead, the championship games will be held at four different locations this year.
The Class 5A title game, which will be the only game in the 5A field as just two teams advance to the postseason, will take place at Bald Eagle Area on Monday, May 22.
The next day, the Class 4A championship, which will be decided from a field of three teams, will be held at Central Cambria.
On Wednesday, May 24 the Class 6A title will be handed out at Mount Aloysius to either State College, Altoona or Mifflin County.
The District 6 Class 3A championship game, which has featured an eventual state champion in each of the last two seasons, will be held Monday, May 29 at Johnstown's Point Stadium. The 2A championship will be the next day at Mount Aloysius, and the 1A title game will be Wednesday at Central Cambria.
In 3A, seven teams qualify for the District 6 playoffs and two will move on to the PIAA tournament. Class 2A will see a traditional eight-team field with two teams moving on, and Class 1A will have 11 teams qualifying and two advancing. All playoff games will begin at 4 p.m.
The final day to accumulate points for the postseason for teams will be Monday, May 15.
The softball championships will remain at Saint Francis University this season.
