Lions get impressive win at PNG

Brennan Freiwald’s one-out fielder’s choice with the bases loaded delivered the winning run as Altoona scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Red Land, 7-6, at PNG Field Wednesday in high school baseball action.
Trent Meyers collected two hits and struck out five batters in three innings of relief for Altoona. Freiwald and Connor Lindsey both collected a hit and two RBIs for Altoona. Tanner Stroup struck out four batters and collected the win.
Cooper Artley had a two-run double for Red Land, which led 5-0 going into the bottom of the fifth inning.

Nihart shines
BLAIRSVILLE — Sidney Nihart pitched and hit the Cambria Heights softball team to an 11-3 win at River Valley.
Nihart scattered seven hits, struck out seven and walked just two as the Lady Highlanders improved to 2-0. She also had two hits and two RBIs. Teammate Lexi Griak led the way with two hits and three RBIs. Martina White and Abby Zeglen also finished with two RBIs.
