Altoona seventh-grader Deklan Barr finished second at 90 pounds at the NHSCA Middle School Nationals on Sunday at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
Barr went 5-1 in the tournament, racking up a technical fall, pin and three decisions, including a 2-1 win over Maryland's Eli Gabrielson in the semifinals. In the finals, Barr was beaten by Brighton Karvoski, 8-0, of Newtown, CT.
Karvoksi is a five-time Youth New England Wrestling Championship winner who was voted 2022 Most Outstanding Wrestler in the New England event.
Tyrone Area High School freshman Kyle Scott placed seventh at 182 pounds at the NHSCA Freshman Nationals.
Scott, who was a state qualifier for the Golden Eagles, went 5-2 in the tournament. He lost in the first round to Georgia's eventual champion Ryder Wilder, 10-2, but Scott won four in a row in the consolations to reach the medal round, notching two pins, a technical fall and a major decision.
After he dropped a 2-1 decision to Pennsylvania's Jackson Angelo, Scott pinned Indiana's Seer Godwise in 1:57 in the seventh-place bout.
Tyrone state qualifier Braden Ewing went 2-2 at 285 in the junior nationals.
Imler wins PJW state title
Claysburg-Kimmel's Aunnika Imler captured the 66-pound title in the girls 11 and 12 age group of the Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling Youth State Championships on Sunday at the University of Pittsburgh's Petersen Events Center.
Imler pinned West Allegheny's Ava Lamb in 2:27 in the finals. Imler reached the finals by racking up a 17-1 technical fall in the semifinals.
Northern Bedford's Kaylynn Hall (60) placed third in the girls 11 and 12 age group, while Northern Bedford's Yasmin Miller (84) took fourth. Bellwood-Antis' Isabel Higgins Sweet (125) placed fifth.
Claysburg-Kimmel's Grayden Paris (65) and Tyrone's Keegan Hewitt (145) finished third in the boys 11 and 12 age group. Claysburg-Kimmel's Crew Musselman (65) placed fifth.
Altoona's Dominic Picciotti (85) finished seventh, while Northern Bedford's Brett Cottle (100) placed eighth in the same age group.
Bishop Carroll's Journey Strittmatter (50) placed second in the girls 9 and 10 age group. Philadelphia's Muirenn Bagnell defeated Strittmatter, 7-0, in the finals.
Hollidaysburg's Mason Kephart (65) finished third in boys 9 and 10 age group. Altoona's Cody Mallery (105) and Portage's Bryce Harrington (85) placed fourth.
Altoona's Nate Picciotti (70) placed fifth. Portage's Joey Myers (65) finished seventh, while Tyrone's Garrett Ciampoli (80) was eighth.
Central Cambria's Jordy Strittmatter (45) placed second in the boys 8 and under age division. South Side's Luke Lagard beat Strittmatter, 8-0, in the finals.
Central's Colvin Smith (50) placed fourth in the same group. Central Cambria's Jace Strittmatter (45) and Portage's Brody Myers (60) placed fifth, while Northern Bedford's Nash Reininger (75) finished sixth.
Central Cambria's Peyton Strittmatter (45) finished fifth in the girls 8 and under age group.
