TYRONE -- The last time Tyrone and Huntingdon wrestled each other was in the semifinals of the District 6 Class 2A Duals last season.
In that dual meet, the Golden Eagles avenged a two-point loss earlier in the season to beat the Bearcats by 18 points.
The 14-2 Bearcats weren't going to let that happen on Tuesday night at Tyrone. They got stunning pins from Andrew McMonagle at 160 and freshman Landon Erdman at 215 and beat the Golden Eagles, 45-18, on their senior night.
"After guys were sick, injured and that type of thing, I knew it wasn't going to be pretty if things didn't go our way," Tyrone coach Quentin Wright said. "We had two or three matches that didn't quite go our way, but we were wrestling well."
"McMonagle and Erdman are both pinners," Huntingdon coach Jon Mykut said. "They both score big points for us. We just tell them to keep wrestling."
Tyrone seniors Korry Walls, Caleb McKinney, Reese Wood, Brody Klein, Jermaine Myers, Curtis Wise and Joel Howard were recognized before the match, with Wright adding some humor to each introduction.
Walls, McKinney and Wood, who returned to the lineup on Saturday at the Husky Duals, didn't wrestle Tuesday for various reasons. Wright said returning state qualifier Walls, out of the lineup since breaking his hand on Dec. 14, could return for the postseason.
"He's healing well," Wright said. "He's getting the motion back in his hand. I would say In one to two weeks, he'll start drilling again."
Remington Fleck got the Eagles (4-6) off on the right foot with an 8-4 decision over Ryan Yocum. Fleck got a takedown and three-point nearfall for a 5-0 lead in the first period. Fleck rode the entire second period, although there was a lot of movement from both wrestlers.
Yocum notched two takedowns in the third period to draw within two, 6-4, but Fleck reversed with 6 seconds left to secure the win.
"Remington wrestled awesome," Wright said. "He got a tough win against a solid guy."
After Huntingdon's Landon Dunsmore won by forfeit at 133 and Eric Mykut won by fall in 2:37, Tyrone's Lukas Walk interrupted the Bearcats momentum at 145 with a 3-1 win over Grady Clark.
Huntingdon's Devin Grubb won by forfeit at 152 before McMonagle, the Williamsburg junior who sidelined at Central last season with a shoulder injury, pulled off the stunner.
McMonagle, who was a Super Regional qualifier two years ago as a freshman, took returning regional qualifier Andrew Weaver down and pinned him in 1:48.
"It was the first time he was down to 160," Mykut said. "I thought he looked good out there against a quality opponent."
At 172, Tyrone's Kyle Scott made two takedowns of Devin Brenneman and an escape stand in a 5-0 win.
Teammate Richard Rawlings followed with a pin in 3:03 at 189. Huntingdon held a 24-15 lead, but that's the closest Tyrone got.
Myers filled in for McKinney, hit a quality double-leg takedown of Erdman in the second to take the lead, 6-5. After Erdman escaped with a minute left, Myers was in on another takedown attempt when Erdman countered and took him down to his back. The pin came with 2 seconds left in the second.
"He wrestled really well," Wright said of Myers. "He was showing his full potential out there. And then when you get rolled to your back one too many times, you eventually get stopped."
In a rematch of last year's District 6 285-pound finals, Huntingdon's 284-pound Gunner Singleton and Tyrone's 243-pound Braden Ewing were tied 1-1 in overtime. Ewing then took a chance and attempted to throw the much taller Singleton.
But Singleton, a returning district champ and regional runner-up, slipped through the attempt and took Ewing down with 21.6 seconds left in OT to win, 3-1.
"We could see that one a few more times at districts, regionals and states," Mykut said.
"He went for it," Wright said. "I was proud of the way he wrestled. He was super smart."
Huntingdon's Gaige Sholly won by forfeit at 107 before teammate Alex Gladfelter recorded a pin inn 1:11 at 114.
Tyrone's Logan Rumberger closed the meet with a 6-2 win over Liam Simpson, breaking a 2-2 tie with a reversal in the second and two nearfall points in the third.
