TYRONE -- Both Tyrone and Hollidaysburg are having trouble filling out their respective wrestling lineups this season.
The difference between them, though, is the Golden Eagles have a more balanced lineup than the Golden Tigers.
The Eagles won all eight bouts that were wrestled on the mat, including four by fall and two by major decisions.
One of the two decisions was Caleb McKinney's 6-0 win over Northwest Regional Tournament participant Rally Hoover. It was a highlight for the Eagles in their 50-6 win on Tuesday night at the Tyrone gym.
"Our guys wrestled well," Tyrone coach Quentin Wright said. "It went as expected, I would say based on the previous results of Hollidaysburg. We have to keep working on a few things here and there."
Hollidaysburg had seven sophomores and a junior in the lineup.
"We're pretty inexperienced and green," said Hollidaysburg coach Christian Harr, who was a teammate of Wright on the Penn State wrestling team.
"To go out against a good team like this with experience, we're certainly not upset with how we wrestled. We know where we've got to get better, and that's what we're going to do."
Tyrone, which forfeited three weights in its season opener against Northern Bedford, picked up two forfeit wins. Hollidaysburg, shut out by Huntingdon, 71-0, in its opener, had a forfeit win by Logan Krupka at 107. There were two weights where neither team had a wrestler.
"These younger guys are stepping up to the plate, taking their lumps and learning along the way," Harr said. "As long as they get one percent better every day, that's all we can ask for. Here in the next year or two, when these guys are juniors and seniors, I think we'll go out there and compete."
The dual meet started with Remington Fleck's 10-0 major decision over Mason Schenk at 133. Fleck notched three takedowns, three nearfall points and an escape.
At 139, Cohen Wallace built a 10-3 lead on Jacob Brua after two periods, scoring seven back points. But Brua was tough on top in the third period, riding Wallace the entire period. Wallace earned the 10-3 win.
"Cohen Wallace took a whole year off and decided to come back this year and have a little bit of fun with our guys," Wright said. "He got his first win tonight, so it's fun to get that. We've got to work on bottom, but on top and on his feet he did really well."
With no bout at 145, Lukas Walk and Andrew Weaver rolled to pins in 2:40 and 2:38 at 152 and 160, respectively.
Kyle Scott and Richard Rawlings picked up back-to-back forfeit wins at 172 and 189 to hike Tyrone's lead to 31-0.
McKinney, a senior who weighed at 189, took Hoover down with a nice single-leg shot in the first period at 215. He rode Hoover the whole second period, and then he escaped for a 3-0 lead in the third.
McKinney showed his power by shooting a double-leg shot, lifting Hoover off the mat and taking him down for two points. The moved thrilled his teammates. A stalling point set the final at 6-0.
"I told McKinney he did something I couldn't do," Wright said. "He lifted that dude up six feet in the air. That was impressive. Hopefully we have enough pictures of that. I might frame that and put it down in the room."
After Braden Ewing's 36-second pin at 285, Logan Krupka won by forfeit at 107. Korry Walls parlayed seven nearfall points, two takedowns and a reversal into a 13-0 major decision over Carson Krupka.
"Walls came out firing," Wright said. "I turned around, and the next thing you know Korry has taken down the kid. All of these guys are really on a mission."
With no bout at 121, Logan Rumberger closed the dual meet with a pin in 1:42.
The Eagles will be back in action tonight against Altoona at the Altoona Fieldhouse.
"That's going to be a tough match," Wright said. "They've got a full lineup. We've got three holes, and we're just going to wrestle like we always do. I'm excited for our guys."
