CRESSON -- Eight wrestlers from the Mirror coverage area advanced to Saturday's semifinals of the 49-team Panther Holliday Classic at Mount Aloysius College.
Glendale's Zeke Dubler, down to 160 pounds, is one of those semifinalists. The returning tournament champ made news by capturing his 100th career win in customary fashion -- with a pin. Dubler pinned Huntingdon's Devin Brenneman in 1:21 in the quarterfinals.
Dubler, who also had pins in 1:15 and 59 seconds, is 15-0 with 14 pins. The Mirror's Co-Wrestler of the Year will face Manheim Central's Class 3A returning state qualifier Brett Barbush in the semifinals.
Tyrone, which is in eighth place in the team standings with 77 points, advanced three to the semifinals in Logan Rumbeger (121), Lukas Walk (145) and Braden Ewing (285).
Altoona's returning Panther Classic champ Luke Sipes (152) and freshman Braiden Weaver (107) also advanced, as did Penn Cambria's Trent Hoover (145) and Central Cambria's Karter Quick (215).
The tournament resumes today at 9 a.m. with the fourth round of consolations. The fifth round will follow, and the semifinals are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. The third, fifth and seventh-place bouts are at 3:30 p.m., and the finals will follow at about 5 p.m.
After recording a pin and a 15-0 technical fall, Sipes won by medical forfeit because his opponent was sick. The Mountain Lion sophomore then won by injury default in the quarters.
Sipes (9-1) will wrestle Philipsburg-Osceola's Marcus Gable in the semifinals.
Weaver had three first-period pins. Rumberger had a pin and two decisions. Walks recorded two pins and a decision. Ewing had a 10-second pin among his three wins.
Hoover advanced with two technical falls and a decision. Quick had three pins in three bouts.
Boiling Springs (117 points) leads the team race over Trinity (112.5) and Huntingdon (110).
