EBENSBURG -- Central Cambria senior Kami Kamzik has dominated Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference batters her entire high school career, and she'll be hoping to continue that trend collegiately at Notre Dame.
Though she's been verbally committed to playing for the Irish for years, Kamzik made it official Wednesday.
"I chose Notre Dame because of the education and softball coaches," Kamzik said. "No other school compared to the education, culture, nor staff."
Kamzik also considered Division I schools Kentucky and Georgia.
She already holds the Central Cambria record for strikeouts in a season, 245, set during her sophomore year. Kamzik is a two-time Altoona Mirror first-team softball player.
"Getting to play in college is a dream come true," Kamzik said. "I dedicated a lot of time and effort into being able to achieve a Division I scholarship and playing at the collegiate level."
Kamzik, who will pitch for Notre Dame but also has been one of the most feared hitters in the LHAC during her career, was a fan of Florida State growing up and got into softball at a relatively late age.
"When I was about 10 years old, I signed up for league ball," Kamzik said. "I continued to play over the next couple of years and my passion and love for the game continued to grow."
Kamzik, the daughter of Amanda and Todd Kamzik, plans to major in Business Analytics.
"We are extremely proud of Kami for all of her success that she's had on our softball field and can't wait to see the success she continues to have at Notre Dame," Central Cambria coach Steve Ruddek said. "Most people look at Kami and see all of the physical abilities that she has been blessed with, but they don't understand her commitment to the sport and how hard she works at her craft."
