CLAYSBURG -- The Claysburg-Kimmel School Board appointed Ron Kakabar as head varsity wrestling coach Wednesday evening.
Kakabar previously served as junior high wrestling coach. He also has experience coaching at Chestnut Ridge and Forest Hills school districts, according to District Athletic Director Brian Helsel.
"He coached multiple state champions, and I'm thrilled that he's interested in being at Claysburg," Helsel said. "He's talked a lot about developing the program."
Kakabar will make $3,600.
The board also appointed Russ Knisely as the assistant varsity wrestling coach, with a salary of $3,529.
A 1989 graduate of Claysburg-Kimmel High School, Knisely has coached on and off at the district for more than 25 years, Helsel said.
"He's a true wrestling guy that loves the sport," Helsel said.
Kakabar and Knisely's appointments are effective immediately, allowing the pair to begin preparing for the upcoming wrestling season starting Nov. 18.
