Bus trip plans under way

The Crosscutters, once a Minor League affiliate of the Pirates, Phillies and Cubs, are a collegiate summer baseball team now in the newly-formed MLB Draft League, which started in 2021.

The first game

Thursday: Hollidaysburg, Pa. (Mid-Atlantic champ) vs. Pearland, Texas (Southwest champ), 7 p.m.

Site: Howard J. Lamade Stadium, Williamsport, Pa. (Approximately 2 hour drive from Hollidaysburg)

TV: ESPN2

At stake: Winner plays either Massapequa, N.Y., Honolulu, Hawaii or Bonney Lake, Wash. in a winners' bracket game on Monday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. on ESPN2. Loser plays either Nolensville, Tenn. or Middleborough, Mass. in a losers' bracket game on Saturday at 7 p.m. on ESPN2.

The Hollidaysburg Area Summer Baseball League is sponsoring a bus to Williamsport for Thursday night's game in the Little League World Series.

Hollidaysburg, the Mid-Atlantic Region champion, plays Pearland, Texas (Southwest champion) at 7 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN2.

Cost is $20 per person, and the HASBL is contributing to defray expenses.

The 55-person Fullington bus will leave at 1 p.m. Thursday from the Hollidaysburg Little League Field.

The offer is contingent on getting enough people.

Hollidaysburg is in a bracket consisting of nine other teams from across the United States including Great Lakes (Indiana), Metro (New York), Midwest (Iowa), Mountain (Utah), New England (Massachusetts), Northwest (Washington), Southeast (Tennessee), Southwest (Texas) and West (Hawaii).

The International bracket consists of Taiwan, Australia, Canada (Vancouver), Caribbean (Curacao), Europe (Italy), Japan, Latin America (Nicaragua), Mexico, Panama and Puerto Rico.

If Hollidaysburg wins on Thursday, it does not play again until Monday night at 7. If Hollidaysburg loses on Thursday, it plays Saturday at 7 p.m.

There are four games being played on Wednesday and four more on Thursday, including the Hollidaysburg game. The tournament semifinals are slated for Saturday, Aug. 27. The title game is set for Sunday, Aug. 28, at 3 p.m. A consolation game is slated for 10 a.m. the same day.

The Mirror will have a special tribute section to the Hollidaysburg Little League team on Wednesday.
