NBC eliminated in quarters
WILLOW HILL — The Northern Bedford baseball team saw its high school season end on Tuesday, losing 4-0 to Fannett-Metal in the District 5 1A quarterfinals.
Winning pitcher Wade Appleby scattered six hits over seven innings for F-M (12-8). He struck out four and did not walk a batter. He also helped himself out with a solo RBI effort.
The Wildcats led 2-0 before scoring two in the bottom of the sixth for the 4-0 lead. Drew Goshorn had three hits — all doubles — and an RBI for F-M. Teammate Alex Umbrell had two RBIs.
Northern Bedford, which finished 7-12, got two hits from Brooks Snider. Losing pitcher Reece Mussleman, just a freshman, gave up seven hits, struck out four and walked only one.
F-M will play Southern Fulton on Thursday in the semifinals. Southern beat Meyersdale, 17-0, on Tuesday in its playoff opener.
